New Doc, LMSW, RYT
Anyssa Grendel, LMSW Anyssa Grendel is a Licensed Masters Social Worker, graduated from Grand Valley State University where she also earned her Bachelors of Science in Health Communications. Anyssa’s career began in program development, education, evaluation and community and public relations with Kalamazoo Community Mental Health. Her experience expands into residential and in-patient psychiatric settings, school systems, emergency medicine and child protection. She has extensive experience conducting mental health assessments and leading individual and group counseling.
Anyssa has a passion for mind-body work, the idea that the more we understand about the connection between our mind and its affects on the body the more control we have over our mental and physical health; the way we think, feel and act. This knowledge then gives us the ability to tap into what is already within us to build resiliency and new and healthy coping skills for the future. Anyssa’s therapeutic approach focuses on strengths, building resiliency factors, interpersonal skills and incorporates dialectical and cognitive behavioral therapies.
Anyssa works primarily with school age children typically 5 years old through adult years with a special interest in relationship counseling, family and parenting issues, perinatal mood issues, anger management, trauma, grief, depression and anxiety related issues. In addition to dialectical and cognitive behavioral therapies, Anyssa has also been trained in trauma informed care of youth and adults, play therapy as well as specialized Postpartum Support International training in perinatal mood disorders.
Anyssa is also a Registered Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance, her training and practice encompasses trauma sensitive mindfulness techniques and self-inquiry. Anyssa facilitates various classes in the community for both children and adults, continues to bring mindfulness and yoga to the youth of Kent County Juvenile Detention Center and incorporates these techniques within her clinical practice.
